Barbies and Hot Wheels and more

The Toy-Doll & Hobby Show has been traveling through North Carolina for more than 20 years. On Saturday and Sunday, the show returns to Raleigh. The show has about 75 vendors from all over the East Coast scheduled to participate. The vendors will bring many collectibles, including antique toys; action figures, such as G.I. Joe; dolls, such as Barbie; Hot Wheels cars; and more.

Owner of Inside Pitch Promotions, Ray Mozingo, said some of the antique items date as far back as the 1800s, and the prices can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Mozingo said the show usually brings in at least 1,500 people of all ages to the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

People attend for different reasons, Mozingo said. Some come in search of items to complete their collections.

“Others attend for investment purposes,” said Mozingo. “A lot of the toys are rare and increase in value.”

Mozingo added that some people are already shopping at the flea market on the fairgrounds and just decide to drop in.

Mozingo has been promoting the toy and doll show for five years, and said his duties usually include finding a venue and advertising. But he says it's the vendors who make it a success.

The show scheduled for Saturday and Sunday is the third in Raleigh this year. Mozingo said there are usually four shows in Raleigh a year. The last one is set for September 10 and 11.

“(The Raleigh show) is one of the larger and better toy and collectible shows on the East Coast,” Mozingo said.

The show also travels to Greensboro, Charlotte, Hickory and Asheville.

Mozingo said the show is a family event, and adds that there is no admission price for children 15 and younger.

“It's a good chance to see some things and bring back some memories,” Mozingo said.   [top]
